How to Get Rid of Sunburn and Tan the Natural Way

Source: associatedcontent.com Author: Dueep Jyot Singh Published date: 2008-09-23

It is rather fashionable to show that you have a tanned skin, when you come back to the office after a holiday, which means that you have been living it up in the South of France. But the easiest way to collect the sun, even in mild weather and get tanned is to slather your face with fresh orange juice or any other citric juice and go out in the sun.

However in the East, a fair complexion means that a fair girl automatically becomes an eligible parti ,so naturally our grandmothers made sure that suntan was removed by a regular application of buttermilk upon our faces, when we came back home after a fine day of sun worshiping.

Apart from this, tomato juice, and a few drops of lemon squash is also an extremely good natural bleacher.

My grandmother always made sure that I washed my face with hot water and then rubbed it with salt and milk cream, to remove any trace and residue of the sun. This is the perfect natural bleaching and moisturizing agent. It also made sure that any residual dust particle, which did happen to survive the vigorous scrubbing given to it, was removed smoothly.

When I grew up, I began to dab a cotton wad wetted with a mixture of cucumber juice, Rosewater and lime juice, when I was out in the sun. This not only refreshed me when I felt grimy, but helped in keeping my skin feeling freshly fresh and newly new.

Naturally, when we went out into the sun, there was always the chance of us getting sunburnt. But as long as grandma had vinegar in the kitchen, we knew that we would be treated to an application of vinegar to take away the burnt sensation and then an application of milk cream and honey to prevent the skin from wrinkling and getting roughened.

Children in Asia usually grow up straight limbed , because our grandmothers massage our limbs, for better coordination and muscular development, with warm mustard oil and then put us out in the sun to bake, when we are knee-high to grasshoppers.
Once a week our grandmother used to make sure that we were rubbed softly with a mixture of cream and white gram powder (besan) to remove the vestiges of any body hair, which made its presence felt. Thanks to these regular rubbings, I have never ever had to use a depilatory ever. Grandma got the hair follicles early! Every child has to go through this process in the East, as long as they have their doting grandmas around!
